Many enrolled volunteer members of the Civilian Defense Corps units acquired white, light colored or light-tan garrison-style side caps. To these caps they added either the official unit emblem for the service they were working with or the generic ā€˜CD’ emblem.

Some side caps are piped in red or blue.

Insignia used on side caps could be a small metal button (but not the 1/2ā€ lapel pin badges), silk embroidered cloth, , die-cut felt or decalcomania.
