Many enrolled volunteer members of the Civilian Defense Corps units acquired white, light colored or light-tan garrison-style side caps. To these caps they added either the official unit emblem for the service they were working with or the generic ‘CD’ emblem.

Some side caps are piped in red or blue.

Insignia used on side caps could be a small metal button (but not the 1/2” lapel pin badges), silk embroidered cloth, , die-cut felt or decalcomania.
