This website covers the history of the Office of Civilian Defense during World War II. An organization set up to protect the US mainland in the event of an enemy attack.
Where is the information drawn from?
Official publications issued by the Office of Civilian Defense plus documents issued by state Defense Councils.
Why create the website?
There was not a site dedicated to civil defense during the years 1941 to 1945. This website is an attempt to fill that gap.
Are photographs under copyright?
The majority of images were created by the US government and are now in the public domain. Other images are originals owned and shared here by historians and collectors.
