U.S. Civilian Defense during World War II
This website provides an overview of the history of the Office of Civilian Defense, spanning from its establishment in 1941 until its dissolution in 1945. It includes information on the units, insignia, equipment, publications, and various other items distributed by the agency during World War II.
Over these four years, the Office of Civilian Defense coordinated the US Citizen's Defense Corps, a large volunteer force committed to safeguarding the populace and dealing with enemy assaults on the United States mainland.
Furthermore, numerous Americans contributed to additional initiatives aimed at supporting their local communities and the war effort through the US Citizens' Service Corps.
I am always interested in adding new information and items related to the US Civilian Defence program of World War II, especially period photos, to the site and blog. To share items, please message me via the Contact page.
We, the people…
In this critical moment of our history, all of us, from all walks of life, all shades of political opinion, all races and creeds, must organise and train ourselves—to defend ourselves.
And when we join together to defend our local community, we add strength not only to our community but to our national community as well—we help to fortify our whole union.
President Franklin D. Roosevelt
